CAR, Centro Agroalimentare Roma, which houses the largest wholesale fruit, vegetable and fish market in Italy and the fourth largest in Europe, has expressed the need to renew and raise the level of its technological solutions in order to improve the services provided to its internal users and meet the needs of the operators, companies and agricultural producers who interact in the hub.
The challenges of growth
The need to boost digital performance is common to many companies in the growth phase, a phase that should be adequately supported by an enterprise-grade infrastructure that is reliable, always available and open to future evolutions. It was precisely from these characteristics that R1 Group started to identify the most suitable solution for CAR, one that would best meet the client’s technological and organizational requirements and ensure a significant evolution of the IT infrastructure architecture.
The solution
A new data center model based on virtualization paradigms and Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) architectures was chosen for CAR to which the systems in use were migrated. Indeed, the Nutanix hyperconverged solution allows the application infrastructure to be brought together in an architecture that integrates compute, memory, storage, networking and virtualization resources in a single, highly scalable hardware appliance, equipped with a backup solution with Veeam software and ExaGrid storage, optimized for this synergy. Specifically, the solution leverages a new Data Center model consisting of three clusters, each consisting in turn of three Nutanix NX-8155N-G9 nodes equipped with Aruba 5406R Top of Rack switches, always in redundancy to ensure high reliability.
R1 Group, with strong interdisciplinary expertise, coordinated the specialized teams of all brands involved and enabled the client to have a single executive design interface.
